The kids' school had their Fall Festival at the end of October. Usually I dread these things and this year was no exception. They are usually hot and crowded and loud but this year was a pleasant surprise! It was actually fun to be there and the kids had a blast! They got their faces painted, played games, won prizes, did the cake walk and bounced on fun inflatables! It was a fun evening out!!!

6th Blogiversary!!
I missed it by a few weeks but it has been 6 years since I started this blog! It has been such a fantastic way to keep connected to friends and family who are scattered across the world - especially Brendan!! Here's a link back to my very first post!! Emmy was only 4 months old and Aidan was only 2 1/2!! It seems like such a long time ago!

Cheekwood in the Fall
On Thursday we went down to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville. I had wanted to get up and get going early in the morning but it just didn't happen. Declan woke up tired and by the time Aidan got up, Declan was ready to go back to bed for a nap! We waited until after lunch and then drove down and spent the late afternoon there. It was beautiful - as always! The afternoon sun on the autumn flowers was gorgeous. Everything had a lovely warm glow and there were very few people there. The last time we visited was for Light, back in July, and the kids had been asking to visit again. They just love going to Cheekwood and so do I. It's my happy place and since we're members, I never feel badly about going for a quick visit! I wish we lived closer so I could go everyday. Even Aidan said it's the thing he's going to miss most when we move next year.
The mums were in peak bloom and there were so many of them it was hard to tell that they WERE mums! We visited the tree house and the trains and the thatched cottage. Aoife wore her Minnie ears from Disney and we got smiles and chuckles from everyone we passed. She has the cutest little personality and is quickly becoming quite the extrovert!
After we walked around the gardens for an hour or so, we went to the pumpkin patch that they had set up near the green houses. The pumpkins were so cool - lots of different shapes and colors! We spent a while picking out the PERFECT pumpkins and playing with the ring toss and the bean bag toss. Declan had a great time crawling around the pumpkins and just being really cute!
After we left Cheekwood it was supper time! We were really close to Carrabba's so we headed over there for some pasta. I don't know if the kids were just hungry or tired from running around all afternoon but they were absolutely perfect at the restaurant. The waiter even commented how well behaved and polite they were. It was such a relaxing and pleasant meal - not that they usually aren't but this evening they were particularly good!
Aoife dancing down the path of mums - she didn't even realize that I was photographing her at first - then she stopped to pose!
Everyone - and the new stroller because the one we rented in Disney was so fantastic!
Group selfie - I had to use a rock to prop up the camera. I don't know why I can't seem to remember my little tripod!!
Declan watching the trains - this is serious business. He could have sat there all day and watched them!

The Nashville Zoo
On Monday we visited the zoo again. Last time we went the jungle gym was closed for repairs and the kangaroo exhibit wasn't open yet. We got to do both this time and we got to feed the lorikeets. The kangaroos were so soft and it was really neat that they just would come up to us. The kids thought it was pretty neat!!
After the kangaroos, we went to feed the lorikeets. It was much for successful than last time and both Emmy and Aidan very pretty psyched to let the birds walk all over them. Aoife was NOT happy with the birds. She was holding one of the cups of nectar and a bird flew at her hand with the intention of landing and having a snack. Instead, Aoife screamed, threw the cup of nectar on the ground and ran behind me. The bird landed on a nearby branch and stared at Aoife like, "What the heck??? Why did you just throw my food on the floor??" She stayed away from the birds after that!!
After the birds, we ate an early lunch and then spent an hour or so playing on the jungle gym and in the toddler play area. The kids had a great time and wore themselves out completely!!

A Weekend of Fun!
This weekend the girls had their last soccer games! It's hard to believe the season is already over - on the basketball next. They had a lot of fun and hopefully we'll be able to fit it in around baseball in the spring. The kids also all got new jammies in the spirit of the season - they are so cute as little skeletons running around the house.
Emmy's last game:
Declan and Emmy at a gymnastics birthday party for our neighbor:
scary!!
Aoife's last game!
