Emmy at the ER

Well - it happened - again.  We ended up at the ER over Christmas break.  At least it wasn't on Christmas Eve like last year or the night before Christmas Eve when Emmy was 6 months!  Poor Emmy was just getting worse and worse.  Her cough was making her turn really red because she couldn't catch her breath and she was even vomiting from the cough.  She had a fever that we couldn't keep down so after I couldn't get an appointment at the doctor's office, I decided to take her to the ER.
Poor baby - she fell asleep on me in the waiting room for about an hour - better than being awake I guess.  We did eventually get into a private room - probably after she complained to the triage nurse of neck pain!  She was unhappy with me taking pictures of her but I did manage to sneak a few.
She ended up getting a breathing treatment for half an hour and both a flue test (negative) and a whooping cough test (which eventually came back negative).  They put her on a Z-Pack and a few days later she was feeling much better.  Poor thing missed her entire Christmas break!

Selfie in the waiting room before she fell asleep!

 not happy with the pictures!
 Breathing easier!
 Feeling better after the nebulizer!!

The National Christmas Tree

Tonight Gramma, Daddy Jim, Aidan, Aoife, Declan and I went to see the National Christmas Tree.  We had to leave Emmy and Brendan asleep in bed - neither of them is feeling well.  It's so not fair to be sick over Christmas!!!
The tree was great - lots of lights and we watched the trains go around and around for a while!!  After we escaped the crowds, we walked back towards the car and went up to the Washington Monument.  It is so beautiful when it's all lit up!  When you stand up on the hill that it's on, you can see all over DC - to the White House, back to the reflecting pool and the Lincoln Memorial.  DC is just a gorgeous city at every time of day!!

Boxing Day!

Aidan got a stomp rocket for Christmas and today was the perfect day to try it out!!  Emmy made it outside for a little while before she had to go inside - poor thing - she really doesn't feel better at all.  The rocket was a hit - even Declan got in on the action even though his rockets only went a few feet in the air!!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!  It has been a fantastic day!!  The kids didn't even get up until 7:00 - a Christmas miracle!!  Everyone was so happy with everything that Santa brought!  Aidan got a PS4, Emmy got the dress she has been wanting, Aoife got the legos and stuffies she asked for and Declan got TRAINS - of all sorts!
Gramma and Daddy Jim were here to celebrate with us which made it even more special!  After the rush of opening presents, we had our traditional Baked French Toast Casserole with Pecan topping which is honestly more like a bread pudding!  Daddy Jim got some delicious stollen that everyone - even Declan - loved!!
Unfortunately Emmy started feeling sick about halfway through the day.  She spent a few hours building with legos and then had to take a break to lay down.  I don't even think she ate much dinner.  We had our traditional Christmas dinner - Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and salad with a boiled cider vinaigrette.  We had cookies for dessert but I don't think anyone was too hungry for them!!  Everyone loved the Christmas crackers that Brendan picked up - the paper crowns were a hit with everyone but Declan.  Aidan spent his dinner trying to figure out the weird British puns!!  To cap it all off - Aoife lost her other front tooth after dinner!!  Very appropriate!!
