Super Aidan

Aidan's Godmother, Kate Clarke, got him this awesome cape for his birthday. It is so cute, soft and closes with a magnet at the neck so he'll be safe! She got it from Ellie Bellie Designs and it is just the best - he LOVES it!! Thank you Kate!!!

** Update - Aidan is now sleeping with the cape - it is adorable!

Go Sox!

A big Thank You to my cousin Matt who got Emmy's hat while he was visiting our Grandfather in Boston. It is so cute on her and fits perfectly - with some room to grow! Now we have matching hats and we'll be able to cheer on the Sox once the season gets started!Emmy wasn't so sure about the timer on the camera - it makes a pretty loud beeping noise as it counts down. She didn't want to smile because of the noise but it made her look at the camera!

Aidan's Party - finally

Today we had Aidan's 3rd birthday party - finally! Aidan's friends from school came over and we played, ate pizza and cake and played some more. Thank goodness we have such a big playroom - we couldn't have had all those kids without someplace to keep them corralled! Aidan got a bunch of cool presents and enjoyed having all of his friends over at once!

Here is Aidan's cake - pretty cute, huh?
Aidan did a good job blowing out the candles and leaning into the front of the cake!
MmmmmEven Emmy enjoyed herself!

Poor Emmy

Emmy hasn't really been herself since last Friday.  Lots of crying and she hasn't been eating or sleeping as well as usual.  I thought it was because she is teething - getting her 2 year molars a little early.  She has also had a cold so that hasn't helped.
In addition, I pulled a tick off of her last Thursday.  I got most of it but it was tiny so it was hard to tell if any was left in her skin.  I finally called the doctor yesterday because I was at my wits' end and couldn't handle the crying any more.  The triage nurse called me back yesterday and freaked out that Emmy had been bitten by a tick.  I told her that there was no sign of infection - it wasn't even red but she told me that I needed to bring her to the ER right away.  There was NO WAY that I was going to do that - the ER at Ft. Belvoir is horrendous and we would have sat there for 5 hours before they told me nothing was wrong.  I called this morning and got an early appointment.  We saw the pediatrician who was puzzled as to why we were there for the tick bite since it looked just fine (redemption!!) BUT she does have ear infections in both ears - which, although is sad and painful - is GOOD because we got antibiotics and she'll be back to herself by tomorrow.  She might even sleep tonight!!

Emmy is 8 months!

Emmy is 8 months old! Well, really she was 8 months last Wednesday but I think that day we were all hiding under a rock somewhere...
What a big girl! She is sleeping 12 (dare I say it??) hours at night!! She is eating lots of interesting foods but her favorites are mangos and a puree of bananas, tofu and plain yogurt - it is good - I even throw a little in Aidan's milk and he loves it!
She isn't talking quite yet but she is babbling a lot and gesturing to things that she wants. No crawling - she is content to sit on her blanket and have Aidan bring her everything that she wants - what a life!!
She loves the trampoline - Aidan was very gentle while she was on it with Brendan - she loves bouncing so I'm not surprised that she liked the motion of the trampoline. Aidan is already asking when Emmy will be big enough to jump with him - so cute!!

Aidan's 3rd Birthday

Aidan is 3! It is really hard to believe that it has been three years. Sometimes it seems like he has always been here and sometimes I look at him and Emmy and can't believe that I am someone's mom - how did I get so lucky?! Anyway - despite being so sick Aidan was a really good sport. We had a nice birthday dinner of Chicken Parmesan - his favorite - and chocolate birthday cake that he helped decorate. Brendan found some candles that spelled out Aidan's name and that was just too cool for words. After we sang Happy Birthday, Aidan blew out the candles and then licked the cake - I guess he just couldn't resist!! (I gave him the slice he licked :) )
We gave Aidan a small trampoline for his birthday. I know - I can hear all of you out there disapproving and it was definitely one of the things on my "list of things I'll never do when I have kids" - along with pacifiers - and we all know how well that worked out! It's a small trampoline and it's only about 2 feet off of the ground. He loves it so much and isn't too crazy on it yet!
Here's Emmy playing with one of Aidan's birthday presents - she's not feeling so well either - this was the best smile I could get out of her - poor thing! We had to cancel Aidan's birthday party on Saturday due to the Strep throat - we're going to do it next Saturday - there will be more pictures to follow!

Happy Valentines Day

I think that we might be getting better - finally! It has been a rough two weeks. After Monday at the doctor with Aidan who ended up with bronchitis and a prescription for two inhalers we were back on Tuesday when Aidan, Emmy and I were all diagnosed with conjunctivitis. Then on Friday - after we went to Aidan's school for his birthday celebration on Thursday - we went back to the doctor and Aidan had an ear infection (his first!) and strep throat. I have a sinus infection and Aidan and I are finally on antibiotics. Aidan has gotten better quickly and besides a lingering cough after running around he seems back to his old self - just a little more tired. I seem to be a little slower getting back up to speed... but enough complaining for now!

Aidan turned 3 on Friday!! Despite the morning spent at the pediatrician's office it was a great day! On Thursday I got to go in to Aidan's school and help out for the Valentine's celebration and the celebration of his birthday. The school is so wonderful - the teacher, Mrs. Matthews, really goes out of her way to make the birthday kid feel really special. The entire day revolves around them and they get to do special things that a three year old would think is awesome - like wearing the birthday candle crown:We also got to do normal preschool stuff like hold one of the class guinea pigs, Lily:
Here is a picture of Aidan with his best friend, Will, and Mara who we think has a crush on Will!
Brendan came for the end of class when we had cupcakes and sang happy birthday - he even sat in circle with Emmy for the story!
Here is Aidan delivering his Valentines to all of his classmates. He was very excited to pass them out - we spent the afternoon on Wednesday making them and they were very cute!

So we had a great time at school on Thursday but I felt just awful that he was so sick. He never complained about any pain but I'm sure he felt it - just one more thing to feel guilty about....

Coming Up for Air

Sorry for the lack of posts but we are still sick. Brendan seems to have escaped but Emmy has it now and she, Aidan and I all have conjunctivitis - so gross and PAINFUL! I took Emmy to the doctor - yesterday we brought Aidan too! - and got us all prescriptions for our eyes. Hopefully we'll be better by Friday for Aidan's birthday!

Harry Potter, MD

We are still sick and I think that Emmy is getting it now. I really hate when she gets sick - it's horrible because she can't blow her nose and she ends up laying there drowning in mucus. Gross. Anyway, I thought this was really cute. Bubba is sick too and he had to have a check up. I guess Bubba's doctor is Harry Potter - maybe we could use some magic!

Germs are NOT for Sharing

We are battling germs - and losing! Aidan and I both have gross colds/coughs and I think we both just want to sleep all day! Emmy seems to be OK but she may be coming down with it too - I really hope she escapes. All the breastfeeding and organic homemade food and she still gets sick - so not fair!

Aidan was doing a really good job sharing Bubba with Emmy yesterday. It's funny - even though she's still so little - all she wants is what Aidan has. If she sees Bubba she reaches for it and grunts - it is really cute. Aidan will usually let her hold it for a few minutes - he mostly objects to her chewing on it!!
