First Day of School - 2019

The end of summer always comes too quickly and this year was no exception. It was a great summer - we went to the beach, had LOTS of backyard firepits, went to museums, hosted a block party and the kids went to lots of camps! Somehow - even with all that fun, it never feels like quite enough. I'm constantly wondering if I can do more and missing out on opportunities to do fun things because I'm working. It's a really tough balancing act and I hope that they had enough fun and spent enough time relaxing and enjoying the summer.

This year Aidan will be starting High School at The Potomac School in McLean, Emmy will be entering 7th grade at WMS, Aoife will be starting 5th grade and Declan will be in 1st grade.  As Declan told me tonight, this is the last year that he will be in school with any of his siblings - so sad!  This is an exciting time - so many changes and fun on the horizon.

First Day of School

  Big Day today!!!  Aidan and Emmy are both in middle school and left super early to catch the bus. Aoife and Declan got up early and even got dressed in time to take a picture together before they left for the bus. Hard to believe - they are all growing up so fast - too fast!!

The First Day of School

 It's finally here - the first day of school! Aidan is in 7th grade, Emmy is in 5th, Aoife is in 3rd and Declan is in Montessori Kindergarten. Aidan's bus comes early but today the other three got up earlier so they could say goodbye to him. It's so sweet that they love each other so much!
Everyone got on the bus so quickly that I barely even got pictures. They were all so excited to see their friends that they practically ran onto the bus!!
At the kids' elementary school, parents are allowed to walk their kids in to their class on the first day so I met them coming off of the bus and walked them in and then I went to the first day coffee. It was nice to see my friends again too!

Declan's First Day

 Declan is finally in school!!! He was so excited to wear his backpack and comb his hair this morning!  So adorable - 3 going on 13!  He actually tried to get on the bus at the bus stop - I had to hold him back!!
Once we got to school he was so excited that he couldn't even stand still for a picture and was halfway down the hall by the time I turned the corner!  He threw his backpack on his hook and ran over to play cars with his friend.  I thought he'd be happy to go - but I didn't realize HOW happy he'd be!!!

First Day of School - 2016

 WE MADE IT!!!!!  It's the first day of school - finally!  We have had such a great summer but with all of these changes on the horizon, it was hard to wait through the last few weeks of summer!
Aidan started Middle School today and had to get up very early this morning - his bus comes at 6:55 am which means he needs to walk to the bus at 6:40.  The girls really wanted to see Aidan before he left for school so they got up an hour early to see him off!  Declan even ended up waking up right as we were taking pictures - so he made it into a few!!
After a LONG morning, Emmy and Aoife got on the bus to their new school!  Declan was so excited to go to the bus stop to see them and his friend off on the bus.  After they left on the bus, we drove over and met them at the school.  It's a tradition at their new school that parents walk the kids to their classrooms on the first day.  It was a little weird but nice to see them getting settled.  Emmy already knew a few people in her class and she seemed fine.  Aoife was a little worried because she didn't know anyone - but I'm SURE she'll be right in the mix in a few days!!
Afterwards Brendan and I went to breakfast with Declan - I think he likes being an only child!!
