Capital Sprints 10K

I don't post about running or fitness too much here but it's become a bigger and bigger part of my life in the last 3 years. On Sunday I ran a 10K to get an official time to submit for the Disney half marathon in December. You may remember that Brendan and I ran the full
Marathon 2 years ago. It wasn't the greatest thing for me. I was running injured and only ended up running 8 miles - them had to walk 18.  That was not fun.
This year I have my sights set a bit lower - the half is completely manageable. The only problem is that I've been working back from injury - AGAIN. That means limited miles and longer to recover between runs. I'm still working on strength and cardio several days a week but it's not the same as running. Anyway - I ran another 10K a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed in my performance and time. My injury flared up during the race and I had to walk a large portion of the last 2 miles. This weekend I felt much better, ran the entire race, took 5 minutes off of my time from a few weeks ago, placed 25th overall and 6th out of 29 in my age group. (It was a small race!!). The best part was that Brendan and Declan were at the finish line!  Nothing better than that after a race - well, except maybe an ice cream cone!

C&O half marathon

Brendan got up an ran a half marathon on the C&O Canal path this morning in the pouring rain!  He wanted to get a qualifying time under his belt for the Disney marathon in January so he wouldn't be stuck at the back like we were the last time we ran it!!  He did great and beat his goal of 2 hours.  He came in 10th overall with a time of 1:46:45!!

Girls on the Run 5K

Emmy and I ran the Girls on the Run 5K that she has been training for during the week for the past two months. She did so great!  I had agreed to also run with two other girls who are friends of Emmy's.  They ended up being a lot slower than Emmy and I didn't feel comfortable leaving them behind so Emmy decided to go on ahead and just meet up with is at the finish line. I wish I could have crossed the line with her but I'm so proud that she wanted to push herself and go on ahead.  Brendan got a picture of her finishing with a friend and I'm sure she was super happy. Here are a couple of pictures from today!!  A few of my friends from Stroller Strong joined us! She had a big cheerleading section!!

Girls on the Run

Emmy has been doing Girls on the Run twice a week for the past two months.  They meet twice a week and run around 2 miles each day in preparation for a 5K next weekend.  Today they ran a practice 5K and then had bagels afterward.  Emmy has really enjoyed it and I can't wait to run in the race with her next weekend!!!

Stroller Strong Family 5K

This morning I took all of the kids to the Jefferson Memorial for a fun 5K with our Stroller Strong family.  The girls brought their scooters and made it one loop around the tidal basin - not bad - it's 1 1/2 miles!  Aidan ran the whole thing and finished in 36.07 - pretty awesome!  He was tough during the last mile and kept going even though he wanted to quit!!  So impressed by his mental toughness!  Declan enjoyed being pushed on the stroller as usual - luckily he loves when we run!!!

National Running Day

I've been really enjoying spending so much time with the girls of Stroller Strong Moms DC!  Most are military and its been like a little FRG with people that you actually like!! Yesterday was National running day so we did a longer than normal (1 mile) partner run and then finished with 45 minutes of yoga!  It was great and I'm sore!!

Run Disney Marathon Weekend - Day 2

On Saturday, we got up and went to the Magic Kingdom.  We were supposed to have breakfast at the Grand Floridian but we got stuck in traffic on the way to the Magic Kingdom.  We didn't realize that the half marathon would shut the roads down and made traffic horrible!  By the time we got to the Magic Kingdom, we were really late so we just ditched our reservations, assuming that we could find breakfast in the park.  There are actually not a lot of quick serve restaurants open at breakfast but we lucked into some yummy pastries at Gaston's Tavern.  Probably not the world's best day-before-marathon breakfast but it was better than nothing and very tasty!!
It was pretty cool as you can tell from our jackets!  I was happy that I packed it - it was kind of a last second addition to my suitcase!!
After breakfast we went to Ariel's grotto, the haunted mansion and the people mover in Tomorrowland.  We also did the jungle cruise in Adventureland and we were the only people in the Hall of Presidents!!  We had lunch with Tigger at the Crystal Palace, road the train (Brendan got stung by a bee!!!) all the way around the park and went on the new Snow White roller coaster.
We left and headed back to the hotel to put our feet up and watch the Patriots game!  After the Pats won (thank goodness!!), we went to dinner at the Grand Floridian and then headed back to get a good night's sleep!  I made sure to lay all of my stuff out for the race because I was super nervous about forgetting something at 3:30 in the morning!!
