Almost done...
I'm almost done with Aoife's baby book. My goal is to have it completely done by her 2nd birthday. I know - mother of the year. :( Anyway - this is the collage for the title page - she changed so much in the first year - and just as much in the 2nd!!
A Present from Daddy
Brendan was so nice to preorder Aidan a copy of Tron Legacy. It arrived this afternoon and Aidan was so excited! They had gone to the movies together to see it and they had a great time.
Lingual Frenulum
Sticking one's tongue out is not something that I normally encourage. In fact, when Aidan or Emmy do it - in spite - it drives me nuts. It's rare that it happens because they know that an immediate time out is on it's way.
Aoife, on the other hand, was born with a short lingual frenulum. It's the piece of tissue under your tongue that connects it to the bottom of your mouth. Hers was so short that she couldn't stick her tongue out at all - the tip didn't come beyond her teeth. When she tried to stick her tongue out, the middle folded forward and the tip stayed in her mouth. I didn't realize it for the longest time and I should have - I even took this picture when she was 5 months old. It's really obvious now!
She had surgery to clip the frenulum in October of last year and any ground in speech that was lost has been made up. She never seemed to have trouble eating because of it which is good. Now that she can say "N" and "L" sounds, she is awesome at it. She can say "yellow" perfectly - a word that is difficult even for some 5 year olds and has named all bunnies "na-na's" as if to show off her pronunciation abilities!!
She stuck her tongue out tonight in this picture and it makes me feel so good. I am so happy that we have the resources and the doctors to improve her quality of life. The surgeon who did her procedure told me that if we hadn't done the surgery she would have been "severely limited" in her speech. Now she will have a normal life thanks to him. I'm so grateful!

The Best Valentine's Day Present
Before Brendan left we had family pictures taken. On Friday I went and picked up our framed prints for the wall. I just LOVE them!! Thank you to my wonderful husband for the best Valentine's Day present ever!

Aidan's first sleepover
Aidan's friend down the street had a sleepover on Friday night for his 7th birthday. Aidan has been so excited for the past week and has been packed since Wednesday!! Aidan and another little boy went over around 4:30. They had a great time but didn't go to sleep until about 11:30 and got up around 7:30. Aidan really needs his sleep and on the weekend usually goes to bed around 7:30 and gets up around 9:30 in the morning. By my calculations, he missed 6 hours of sleep. Last night he went to bed at 6:15 and was asleep by 6:30 and then got up at 9:00. He is still really grumpy and tired. I think we learned a lesson - a sleepover ruins the entire weekend for him and everyone else. Although he had fun and made it through the night just fine, I don't think we'll be doing it again any time soon!
