Don F. Pratt Museum

On Friday we visited the museum on Ft. Campbell. We walked around inside the museum but the kids loved running around and looking at the helicopters and airplanes.

Tornado??

We survived a really bad storm last night. There was a tornado watch on Fort Campbell and the tornado sirens were going - it was really scary, especially since it was at 1 in the morning. The wind was really really loud and was shaking the house. It passed by pretty quickly - about 15 minutes - since the storms were traveling at over 60 mph. This morning we found some damage - not a huge amount but a lot more than anywhere else that we drove through taking Emmy to school.
This tree came down in our backyard - good thing it fell into the woods or we would have a tree through our roof right now. This trampoline was at the park - far from any house - who knows where it came from! Can this happen from straight line winds?Again - a mysterious trampoline. This one took a tree with it but missed all the cars parked on the street.Trees sheared off and missing the rest of them - that's just a few branches on the ground.A big tree uprooted at the end of the street - good thing it fell into the woods!

Ruffle Cake

I made this Ruffle Cake for my friend's baby shower on Sunday. I was so sad to have to miss it. These are the tough parts of being a single mom. I had to make the hard decision and go with what was best for my kids. It broke my heart to not be at the shower but I couldn't get a sitter and after a tiring weekend there was no way I could bring the kids and expect even decent behavior. It just wouldn't have been fair to them - or the other guests at the shower!! :)

All Is Right With The World

Taggie is back!! On Saturday morning after breakfast we went upstairs to get everyone dressed. I had Emmy and Aoife in their room and Aunt Amanda came in to see if she could find taggie - a fresh set of eyes is sometimes all you need! We were trying to decide what everyone was going to wear and Emmy got mad about something - I think it was the fact that she had to wear warm clothes because it was cool and rainy that day. The changes in the weather have made it impossible to do the seasonal migration of clothing. Right now the kids' rooms are bursting at the seams with both winter and summer clothes. One day it's sunny and 85 degrees and the next it's rainy and 50. It's driving me crazy!
Anyway - Emmy got mad and crawled into the back of her closet to calm down. She came out a minute or so later with the princess pinata from her birthday party last year. It's one of the ones that you pull the strings and a hole opens up in the bottom. I thought it might be reusable and Emmy loved the princesses on it so we still have it. I got up to go get a hairbow from the bathroom and I'm halfway down the hall with Emmy following me when I look back to see Aoife following us - WITH TAGGIE IN HER HAND! I did a double take - I couldn't believe it! She handed it to Emmy like it was nothing and exclaimed, "Emmy taggie!!"
"Where in the world did that come from?", I asked.
"The pinata, the pinata!!!", Emmy yells, "I remember now - I put it in the pinata!"
That had to be exactly what happened. There was no way I could see it shoved inside and I must have put it into the closet when I was picking up toys and looking for taggie.
Since she seemed like she didn't care that it was missing I was a little surprised by how happy Emmy was to have taggie back. It hasn't left her hand since and she hasn't been able to nap since she doesn't want to miss spending time with taggie.
All is right with the world.

Fort Defiance

Aunt Amanda visited us this weekend and we had a great time. The kids loved having her around and so did I!!! It's so much fun to have a fun aunt to have dance parties and jump with on the trampoline!!! Although it rained pretty much the entire time Amanda was here, we did manage to get to a new park in Clarksville. Fort Defiance - a Civil War fort - was just reclaimed by the city and they did a beautiful job turning it into a wonderful park. The kids had a great time running around and we all had some much needed outdoor fun!

Garden in the ground

Our garden is off to a good start! We have garlic growing to the far right, then onions to the left and then beans. Peas along the cement wall will hopefully grow up onto the railing. We got some pretty heavy rain yesterday that killed some of our beans - we replanted today. Let's hope they come up soon!
